The recommendation is to wipe down the mat with water to generate the stickiness. It did this 3 times but still no good for down-dogs because my hands were slipping, eventually abandoned the mat for yoga and gone back to my old reliable but dirty and falling apart yoga mat. Now use this mat for floor work in other classes, but it too thin really for that sort of workout.On the positive sit, the mat is nice and thin and firm to aid balance exercises
