A-7 Corsair II Units 1975-91 (Combat Aircraft) Paperback – 18 February 2021

Well researched and thoroughly engaging book on the important history of the A-7. Could have been a bit more thorough on the A-7’s role in the Iranian hostage rescue mission had the mishap at Desert One not happened. The A-7’s flying off the USS Nimitz would have been instrumental in the completion of that mission had the mishap not happened early on at Desert One when an H-53 crashed into a C-130 on the ground, thereby aborting the mission. I know, because I was an A-7 pilot on the Nimitz and was poised to be one of the A-7’s slated to launch had the mission continued. We were outfitted with Rockeye’s, Zuni’s, and Sidewinders. Our mission was to protect the trucks carrying the hostages leaving Tehran back to the Desert One site for theater extraction in the C-130’s.

A good reference material about the role of the A-7 Corsair II Units from 1975 to 1991. i really liked the way the author presented the job done by the pilots during the 1991 war, he does that with historic rigour. I reccomend it

The Vietnam War workhorse A-7 Corsair II attack aircraft had a long afterlife. As this well-written Osprey Combat Aircraft Series book reveals, the A-7 showed up at practically every U.S. diplomatic hotspot from the Mayaguez incident in 1975 to the end of Desert Storm in 1991. This rugged Navy aircraft did great work for several generations of carrier aviators.The authors set up each crisis, then rely heavily on some terrific first-person accounts to tell the story of the A-7. Commentary is even-handed and very informative. The text is nicely supplemented with lots of period photographs and the expected color plates of aircraft markings and configurations. Very well recommended to students of naval aviation and the general reader with a little background on the subject.

Great book on the history of the Corsair 1975-1991 with incredible, historic photos, including some of me during Desert Storm with my memories of the war. It was an honor to be included in this book and the history of the Corsair!
