Couldn't wait to get my hands on this book ever since I heard about it. It's huge! While there are a few standard patterns for drawers and nightgowns, I was pleasantly surprised to also find not just a couple but several patterns for tea gowns, wrappers and "morning" wear with variations. Not many wrapper patterns out there. There are countless day dresses and redingotes, more than I expected. While there were hardly any "wow" patterns for me and many outfits seemed similar, there were some really excellent and original designs that could easily be swapped out or altered to suit.There were also many illustrations of the garment with trim alternatives and a section at the back of the book that featured many more trim ideas and a how-to one page diagram for smocking which was really excellent. While there was a large volume of good patterns, even a small sportswear section of tennis dresses and a riding habit, I wish there had been a little more variation and some corset/dickey/collar/accessories patterns other than the one apron pattern at the end. Still, a great resource with solid material. This would be a good tool for someone trying to reproduce a dress of that era from a fashion plate or copy a museum piece. A few of the garments seemed to be worn without a bustle or featured back skirt pleats that could be removed, and could pass for Natural Form or early 1890s if so required.I love that the apportioning scales [scaled rulers to recreate the pattern to your measurements] and a curved template tool are included in the back along with a glossary for historical sewing. Large, clearly detailed illustrations and diagrams. Not cheap or for a beginner, but a good value for a serious enthusiast.
