This is the best of the knockoff battery testers hands down

I decided to get a battery tester to keep up with all the various 12 volt batteries we use on our farm. I didn't want to spend 50 bucks for the name brand so looked at all the different knockoffs and settled with this Neiko. I can now say I made the right choice! I have tested it on about a different different batteries and it does exactly what it was designed to do. It shows how much voltage sag happens when batteries get put under a load. It clearly showed me which batteries are getting weak and which ones were still strong. The tester is well built and well designed. It should last for years. Nice when something is cheap and works good. This one is a winner!

Works as advertised.

Works as it should and simple to use. Readings are easy to see. It is accurate. The smoke is normal for first few uses and will stop .

Does the job; not quite 100A

Roughly does the task I asked it. A star deducted because not quite a 100A load due to resistance being 0.2 Ohms measured with switch depressed. For my expected voltage range of 12.8V (fully charged lead acid), I can only manage a draw of 64A when cold. I imagine when the resistive element inside gets glowing orange, it's probably less current, as materials become more resistive as they heat up (usually exacerbating the heat until pop goes the wire). The clamps and wire also acts as part of the resistive element and needs to be cooled fully between battery tests or it will become a molten pool. This is why it's on a dead-man switch (when you let go it turns off).So by my figurin', if the gauge is rated for a 100A draw, it's off by 64%! That's not great, but you can just judge how deep it plunges after a load for 15s or so as a pretty good sign if it's toast. Don't think I'll trust the actual gauge, otherwise it's a pretty decent resistive element for high amperage.Wait... if it's off by 64% I might need a battery after all... if ONLY I HAD A TOOL THAT RELIABLY TOLD ME....

A great tester!

Works well, great instrument to test your batteries and not having to trust someone else.

Ahhh it works

Make sure you read the book it says it'll get hot enough to burn you and cause property damage that it can it says it will get hot enough and will burn you. It worked a couple seconds used it to test one battery. As soon as you hook up the cables instantly goes to where it should be so you can unhook it then if that's all you wanted to do then with the load tester you know hook up the cables and instantly reads and then hit the load tester maybe two seconds and it goes right to where it should there's no need to run it any longer than 2 seconds then unhook it. Used it a few I like it. It does get warm fast probably hot like booklet says if you hold the load tester mire than a few seconds. It did smoke till the 5th use now no smoke. Cheap price no big name brand but it works great.

Works as it should

Good product to tell you if the battery is good, charged and if it will start your vehicle under load.I had 2 batteries that were questionable. Both were bad after tested. Saved me time of having to take them to the auto part store to get tested.

Works great

I'd rather check my batteries at home instead of the auto parts store or dealership

Very accurate, measured 93 amps out of 100

Saw another review claiming this tester only draws about 60/100 amps, and I wanted to test this to see if they were right.I used a DC amperage clamp meter to measure how many amps this tester actually draws. It starts at about 95 and slowly drops to about 90 as the resistance increases when the resister in the tester starts heating up. If I used a fresh battery that was 12.8 volts I’m sure it would read 100 amps, but the battery I used was maybe 12.5 volts. This is a great load tester for a great price, just don’t test multiple batteries back to back to back, it will ruin it. Let it cool down for 10-15 minutes between each test.
