Stylish food thermometer with fast accurate temperature readings on large display
A very stylish food thermometer packaged in an equally stylist presentation box, which would make an ideal and useful gift. Fast and accurate temperature readings on a large clear display which rotates so that the readings are always the right way up. The thermometer takes a single AAA battery which is much more convenient and inexpensive to source than some flat button batteries which other thermometers use – Would highly recommend

A nice slab of meat thermometer.
Slab like was my initial impression upon unboxing and picking it up.A certain amount of rigmarole required to set it up, unlike most of these things. It comes with a seperate AAA battery and a small screwdriver and the first job is to install the battery, with the aid of the screwdriver that doesn't fit the screw it needs to - I suspect that the screw was over tightened at the factory to an extent that the little toy screwdriver supplied had no hope. But, with the aid of a real screwdriver, screw removed, battery inserted, cover screwed back on. The unit powers up in Fahrenheit - manual says to push the F/C button, but no button to be found. Further perusal of the manual suggests that the button is inside the battery compartment, that I've just sealed. So, screwdriver, open it up, press the 'button', check it's now using centigrade, reseal it.It is a little faster than my other 2 meat thermometers, but it doesn't reach the settled temperature much faster, it just gets in the ballpark faster. But it is faster. The thing that most stood out is if moved it keeps trying to display in the direction it thinks is relative up. To be fair it does get this right but multiple orientation changes while mucking about with it could get old really rapidly. The magnets are a little weak in my opinion, or rather one of them is. I can attach it vertically to my fridge, but not horizontally, as one of the 2 magnets isn't strong enough to hold it in a horizontal position.I've compared the results it gives with my other two meat thermometers and they all seem in rough agreement, to with a degree or so.In my opinion it is slightly expensive for this sort of thing but it is a slab, with very few areas where dirt could collect - only around the probe mounts as far as I can see, and allegedly the single AAA battery will give ten times the battery life of a standard 2032 battery, so once bought that's it for expense. It seems accurate, it's easy to clean, and it, well......it doesn't do anything else.

More than good for a complete novice like me
I've always wanted to have a thermometer like this just so I can take the guess work out of cooking meats. I tend to overcook them which is why I desperately need objective, mathematical help from technology.I don't cook often enough to have bothered getting one so I was really pleased to order it.What I like:- Sleek design- Quick reading times- It's accurate (haven't tested myself but check other reviewers, they seem to know their stuff and have high quality thermometers to compare to)- Works with AAA battery + it has a battery included in the box- Big numbers, very easy to read- Display changes orientation so you can read easily no matter if you use your left or right hand- No buttons. Auto wake up & auto sleep when the skewer is extended/tucked inWhat I don't like as much:- It claims it's OLED but doesn't look like it is. Looks like a simple LCD screen however it is very easily viewable from any angle so maybe I am wrong and it actually is OLED.- As another reviewer pointed out, the tiny screwdriver is too small.

Very fast, sensitive and accurate.
A little known fact about Phillips screwdrivers is that they are designed to slip rather than damage the screw. However, the supplied screwdriver is too small for the battery compartment screw so slippage is just about all you get. It's hard to understand how a manufacturer can get this so wrong!Apart from that very minor niggle, the thermometer is nicely presented and has a quality feel. The °C/°F switch is under the battery cover rather than being accessible from the outside. This is only likely to be a problem if the recipe mentions Fahrenheit but you've set yours to Celsius or vice versa.I tried holding the probe in the steam from a boiling kettle and was very surprised to see that it did accurately display 100°C. Whether this indicates that the thermometer is accurate all the way down to zero is to be determined but at room temperature it does seem to be within about 0.5°C of my reference thermometers. When I get a minute, it will be interesting to have a go at calibrating it in melting (not frozen) ice, as per the instructions. The outstanding feature of this thermometer is the rapid response time which is more than fast enough for anyone other than a chef at NASA!This tool would make a great gift for any cook, especially those with the correctly sized screwdriver.
