Oxford Junior Illustrated Dictionary

I bought this as an educational gift for my 6 year old daughter who's just started reading and writing properly and SHE LOVES THIS DICTIONARY.It has all the requisite words, and more, for kids even up to 15 years of age. My curious daughter loves looking up new words and understanding their meaning and then quizzing us on it. Its a fun, educational and an absolute worth to buy.I would recommend hardback over paperback, only for durability sake.

Illustrations are good. It's upto school level as it's not comprehensive

We bought the Oxford Junior Illustrated dictionary mainly because it looked attractive with colors, illustrations, etc. While it is attractive with colors, pictures, etc., it is of very limited use. The paper quality and font size are very good. But many common words are not present in it, to my surprise (and a bit of disappointment)! For example, there are no "abduct", "exile", "indebted", "valiant" which are usually found in kids stories. In that sense, this dictionary is quite elementary. But whatever words are present in the dictionary, they are explained very crisply and in an easy to understand manner.If you are considering to buy this, make sure you have appropriate expectation. For example, don't expect it to have meanings for all or many words found in stories meant for 6+ years. Perhaps it suits for kids below 5 or 6. The Pocket Oxford dictionary (South Asia edition) has far more words and is far more useful while not being overly big, but it does not have attractive colors, illustrations, etc. We bought the Pocket dictionary after finding that this Junior Illustrated dictionary is missing a lot of words we needed. We didn't however return the Junior, as it looks good and has crisp and easy explanation of whatever few words it has. By the way, Pocket Oxford dictionary is not really pocketable - it is around 18x11x5cm in size.

Purchased for my granddaughter. Having great respect for the accuracy and correctness of Oxford Dictionaries, ordered for this. No disappointment, happy. However, have a feeling that a hardcover could have been more appropriate.

The concept of pictures in dictionary attracts kids to learn more and read dictionary often. Good way of learning.

Best to have for kids

1. The quality of book is good.2. Paper quality is excellent. Colorful pages.2. The word content is bit average.3. Very bad packaging by the seller. Came with bare amazon polythene cover. It doesn't help to protect the hardbound edges of the book. The seller could have given a bubble wrap at the least.
