Made my postpartum time with the newborn less stressful
The Overview:Postpartum, I encountered a few cold sores, which posed a significant risk to my newborn. The need for constant hand washing and wearing a mask was not only inconvenient but also stressful. The Mederma Fever Blister Discreet Healing Patch came to my rescue, offering both concealment and safety. The Good:Effective Concealment: These patches are large enough to cover even the most substantial cold sores, providing a discreet look that blends well under makeup or on its own.Adhesion: Initially skeptical about its stickiness, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it adhered to my skin. It stayed in place far beyond the expected time, lasting up to 4 days without losing its grip.Healing Environment: The patch creates a sealed, moist environment that promotes healing while safely containing the blister's liquid, significantly reducing the risk of spreading the virus to my baby.Peace of Mind: Knowing that the sore was contained made me feel much safer around my newborn, reducing my stress and allowing me to focus on recovery and bonding rather than my condition. The Not-So-Good:Really, There's Little to Critique: Perhaps the only minor issue could be the visibility under very close scrutiny, but this is more about personal comfort than a flaw in the product itself.Overall:The Mederma Fever Blister Patch has been a game-changer for me during a vulnerable time. It not only helps in healing but also in managing the spread of cold sores in a household with a baby. Its effectiveness, combined with the peace of mind it provides, makes it an essential product for anyone dealing with cold sores.Pros:Adequate coverage for large soresExceptional adhesion, staying on for daysPromotes healing by keeping the area moistReduces the risk of viral transmissionCons:Might be slightly visible under very close inspectionConclusion:If you're a new mom or anyone concerned about the spread of cold sores, particularly around vulnerable individuals like infants, these patches from Mederma are a lifesaver. They've made managing my condition during a critical time much less daunting.

OMG, these are awesome!
Being a nurse, I didn't learn about using hydrocolloid patches for cold sores here. However, I have never used a hydrocolloid patch that is this snug on my skin. When my cold sore came up, I started using these other patches made for acne, but with my work, I have to wear an N95, and the sweat and humid conditions caused me to have to change them about once every hour, and with changing them comes washing my hands before and after, drying the area etc. So, the other ones weren't terribly convenient. But THIS patch doesn't require all the changing of patches. It is stuck TIGHT and waterproof for 12-14 hours! I even wore one while working in my hot, humid garage for hours, and it didn't budge even with sweat pouring off my face.PLUS, one of my least favorite things about having a cold sore is worrying about spreading it to other areas of my face or giving it to my husband or kids. I get PARANOID about it. When I wore the other patches, I was worried about my youngest trying to pull it off of my lip when I held her. But these patches are nearly invisible, so my toddlers didn't even notice it.Best of all, I have learn from previous sores that hydrocolloid patches tend to cut my healing time in HALF, and I don't even have to get to a certain product as early as possible like I did when using docosanol. When I finally got around to treating this latest sore, it was an angry, red cluster of yellow vesicles that looked like they'd burst if I even looked at it the wrong way. But I put on a patch, and by the time it was falling off (about an hour with those zit patches), the liquid had already crossed the membrane and it was looking much less angry. So, I will admit, I didn't start with these patches this time around. I ran out of my usual patches (just a generic brand hydrocolloid patch made for acne), and I needed more. So I hopped on here to look for a replacement, and these came up in my search. I'm SO glad they did, and I definitely would have bought these first if I had known just how watertight, invisible, and long lasting these were! Not gonna lie, I thought they might be too big when I got them, but I think they need to be in order to give you 12-14 hours of watertight wear and so that they'll fit when your lesion is at its swollen and angriest. I just allowed part of the patch to lay off of the red part of my lip, on my skin. I was also worried about potentially wasting one due to the price (I get like 80 of the ones for acne for less money than these), however, the way they apply is actually easier than the other type, with no tweezers or applicators needed, and these are so secure for so long that they are absolutely WORTH the money!I can't say enough about these patches! I wish I had found these when I was 16 and got my first cold sore. It would have saved me over two decades of embarrassment and given me so many more comfortable days of my life back.I'll end my review with this: buy them. You WON'T regret it!

Wow, this stuff works great!
I've had many cold sores, but this is the first time I've heard of a patch for it. I currently have the Mother of All Cold Sores and it sucks. These Mederma patches are helping a ton, though. From what I can tell, there's no actual medication to it, it's just a cover, so my expectations were low. My first patch stayed on 36 hours before I removed it myself. It pulled off a bunch of the gunky mush when it came off, which helped make my sore cleaner. TROUBLE STICKING? TRY THIS: I imagine the wet goo is what keeps these from sticking for some people. When I removed my first patch, I washed my sore with a touch of soap (uncomfortable because touching the sore stings), then rinsing well and drying by patting with a dry paper towel. The patch can stick to the plastic holder rather than your lip if you try to apply it quickly. I learned that the first time. The second time, I pressed the patch gently to my skin and held it there, pressing firmly for 10-15 seconds before peeling the plastic applicator away. The patch stuck to my skin beautifully. Normally, my tongue cannot stay away from my sore because they tingle and hurt. This patch stops the tingling/hurting. Every few hours, I'll feel a much milder, non-painful tingling that lasts a few seconds, then goes away. The rest of the time, when it would hurt non-stop, there is no pain. I think the raw, open nerve endings is what is causing pain, so covering them up fixes it. I'm super grateful to have these patches. Their ability to conceal the grossness is not fantastic, but it's better than having it out there for the world to see. (I don't use makeup most days, so maybe makeup would help.) It's worth wearing for the pain-reduction alone.
