Ford Genuine Ford XT-5-QMC MERCON-V Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid - 16 oz.

Had an issue with a humming sound while turning my stirring wheel in my Lincoln MKX. Checked the power stirring fluid reservoir and it was low as a fingertip. Checked the manual and this was the recommended type. Took about a half the bottle to get it to the correct level. Humming stopped and everything's back to normal. Most retailers only have Mercon LV instead of Mercon V. Did a bit of research and they are indeed different. I wasn't going to chance using the wrong thing.

If you own a ford, Motorcraft is the standard fluids. I noticed a PS leak in my 2004 F-350 and none of the local auto parts stores had this in stock. Based on what I saw, it was a motorcraft item. However, what I received looked like the motorcraft PS fluid Mercon V, but was all in Spanish. I believe I received the genuine item, but it is working so far so I cannot complain.

The price for this is almost double the price of my local ford dealer. However this is exactly what i needed for my power steering. It does what it is meant for. However i would recommend buying this at a parts store or even directly at the ford dealer unless you are ok with spending an extra 5 dollar or even more for 1 qt of this stuff. Overall the product is good just not the price.

I found out about Mercon-V ATF and power steering fluid when I put a rebuilt power steering pump in my Crown Vic. Its a dual use fluid with a wide temperature range, great lubrication and anti-oxidation properties. It is also dyed red to make leak detection easier. I like the fact I can carry one fluid for both my automatic transmission and power steering. My power steering never worked as smooth as it does now. It costs more than the old stuff, but its worth it to me.

Fluid seems genuine, smells like it too.
